Urban legends are ways of a modern or an old folklore, which
it consists in the telling of stories that may or may not be true. Hence, all
types of stories have been told throughout the time and as they have been repeatedly
told over and over again, many of them are believed. Nevertheless, it is fair
to mention that parts of these stories are told in order to warn people from doing
things that might harm them. An example of this is, once in my community a
story developed and lasted during a very considerable time. The story was about
a dreadful creature called by local people “Chupacabra”, so, people used to say
that this kind of animal ripped advocate and banana trees. Moreover, it could
hurt people robbing smallholdings at nights. It was obvious that the community
people were only preventing thieves from stealing their agriculture by telling
this legends.
