The short story “the man who saw the flood”
written by Richard Wright is about a poor family that has gone through a great
deal of struggles; besides, the family also has to bear racism something that
was well manifested back in those times. This family just got through a devastating
flood that ended with all their belongings. However, they keep their chins up
and make up their mind to start from scratches. Despite all the troubles, a
very wealthy man, Mr. Burguess comes over and demands Tom to pay the debt. As
expected, Tom is not able to pay him back so he takes Tom to a place where he
can respond for what he owes. This is clearly
the perfect reflection and example of many families that endure these sorts of hardships
in life. They are discriminated and taken away for the economical, political
and material power of some wealthy and high-call people
